The cottage known as St Julians

This house stands just outside the main part of the village of Mattishall and has a long history.  It is known now as St Julians.  Part of that history features members of our own family so we have happy memories of times spent there.

Our research generally is into our ancestors, but, in this case, we were tempted by the age of the house.  We have no idea, as yet, when it was built, nor is it easily identifiable on census to record who actually lived there, but we do now know who owned the property in 1851, that being one Isaac Cundy who left it to his only daughter who was born in Garvestone.  She married Thomas Pryke, the ownership passing to their children who sold it in 1921.  We also think we have identified it on the Tithe Map of 1838.

A police inspector then lived there with his wife and two children, the son selling the property when his father died.  Clearly there is still a lot to learn.
